Munny

December 1st, 2009

So, if you guys have ever heard of a toy company called Kidrobot, then you've most likely heard of something called a Munny. For those who haven't, a Munny is a blank vinyl figure that you can draw/paint/cut/stick/mold/and build off of. The Munny comes in one shape, three sizes, a few colors, and gives you a blank slate with endless possibilities. It has a huge cult following and the variety of personalities created are INSANE.

Here's a link to see the possibilities.

Jordan Buckley, our most recent featured artist on the Draw Limited Signature Series, has created a few Munny's of his own. Check one out here.

If you're thinking about making one, go for it! It can be as simple or as complex as you want it to be so don't be intimidated. There are some really really amazing ones out there. I figured that the only way to start getting good with these is to just jump in and do one myself. So I went out and bought one. It took me a while and a lot of revisions before i got something I liked, so here it is. His name is Marvin and I'm really proud of him. I can't wait to keep doing more and more of these, pushing my abilities and even the ways that a Munny can be used.

Having said that, I want to put more and more of myself/work out there...so Marvin is up for sale. The going rate will be $30.00. Send me an email (drawjordan@gmail.com) if you're at all interested in buying him, and hopefully he can find himself a great home. I can't wait to do another one. You guys should try it too.

New Draw Shirt OUT NOW!

October 20th, 2009

So, in case you were living under a rock lately, you should know by now that we have a new shirt out (finally!!) and that its drawn by Jordan Buckley. Jordan is not only a great artist, but a awesome guitar player for the band Every Time I Die.

This shirt marks new things for Draw. It's our first tee shirt to make our hopefully huge signature series. What we're going to do for you guys is start tapping artists and illustrators we love and seeing if they'd want to join the Draw band wagon. Hopefully if they're game, then some of you guys will start to see shirts you've drawn being released along side some of your own personal favorite artists.

So is there a illustrator out there that you know?

An artist that you admire that you think would fit us?

Then send them our way. You can send in your names, or links to Drawjordan@gmail.com.

In the meantime, buy Jordan's new shirt. It has taken a lot of time to get it out there, and trust me, it'll be worth it (expect unique surprises inside each order).

Plus we have guys and girls sizes for the first time!

This is only the beginning.

Thank You Dr. Zizmor!

October 9th, 2009

For those of you not in NYC, there's been an ad campaign for the last few years featuring a dermatologist named Dr. Zizmor. His ads are…well, they're pretty infamous for being what they are. But Dr. Zizmor doesn't just stop there anymore. Oh yes, we now have a commercial.

Jordan Buckley Made these shirts.

October 4th, 2009

It took me watching "Almost Famous," to really see that a lot of this started because of my constant need for music in my life. Since I was a kid, music was always the thing that made the most sense. If I was mad, I had a album for that, if I was happy, scared, sad, frustrated, nervous, tired, etc. there was always an album out there with someone saying just how I felt, a lot of times better than I ever could.

So music is what got me into drawing, its what got me into art, and eventually album covers are what got me into graphic design. Graphic design got me to college, and through college that introduced me to the few people I surround myself with on Draw, and well college led to Draw itself.

This all stems from a love and appreciation of music.

So it makes me really really ecstatic to say that we'll be having a few shirts not only drawn, but also supported by Jordan Buckley of Every Time I Die.

ETID are one of those bands that I have always followed without any question since I was in 9th or 10th grade. It didn't hurt that they were from NY so they would hit clubs in my area pretty often. I remember begging my mom for rides up to poughkeepsie, or over to middletown to see these guys.

Hell, I even taught myself how to drive a standard car the same day I knew they were playing because my automatic one died on me...and either I learned stick, or I didn't go.

So, its safe to say that this band is one that holds a very special place in my heart and I would have done anything for them design wise for free if that meant that I could just say I did something for Every time I Die.

One day I saw that Jordan Buckley wanted a web designer, so I reached out and tried to see if I could be the one to do the site for him. Through a string of luck as well as some faith on his side in my ability to help him out, Cassie(the lead designer of Draw, and a close friend of mine) and I went out and tried to create the best site we could for him.

Jordan was by far one of the most down to earth, and awesome clients we've ever had the honor of working with, and he's a damn good illustrator as well. In the ever dying world of print and c.d. covers Jordan helped me realize a dream of mine that I've had since I was 13 years old, to do work for the bands I loved, and to help them out artistically as a thank you for the ways their music was there for me when I needed it.

So here's a few of his pieces to check out, and you should also check out his site designed by yours truly and Draw's lead designer Cassie.

oh and if you haven't already, you NEED to buy ETID's new album, New Junk Aesthetic. Not only is this album the only thing I have been able to listen to since it came out, the artwork in it is sweet as hell.

A Gillette Moment

September 26th, 2009

The artist who did the above pieces is named Michael Gillette, originally from Wales, UK. He's an illustrator, typographer and designer who creates truly stunning pieces of work for book covers, ads, posters, CD covers and the web. Michael's worked for everyone from the Beastie Boys to Apple, and Old Navy to Esquire Magazine. The list just keeps on growing.

His portfolio is definitely worth the look, so take some time and head over there.

Athlete Hurricane

September 20th, 2009

I was browsing through Behance today and found an artist/director/photographer named Christopher Hewitt. He directed a video for a UK band named Athlete entitled "Hurricane".

The video is on Chris' website, and since no other website will allow me to embed it into this post, you're gonna have to view it there. An artist that collaborated stylistically for the video is named Stevie Gee, who is an illustrator for Stem Agency, the people who commissioned the video. His work is definitely worth the gander as well.

Watch it: The video!

PES

September 19th, 2009

I've always sucked at Frogger, but this video is pretty cool. It's made by a design group called PES. They have a lot of videos on YouTube, and on their website. They call what they do "Twisted Films".

Creepiest Work Ever on Draw

September 17th, 2009

Normally, there're illustrators and graphic designers and motion graphic designers featured on this Draw blog…but not tonight. Tonight I bring you a sculpture artist named Sam Jinks.

Sam is officially the creepiest person ever to be featured on Draw. An Australian sculpture artist, he's already been compared to Ron Mueck. Ron makes gigantic, larger-than-life art pieces, but I doubt very much his ability to make your skin crawl like Sam can. In a good way of course.

Now the one thing you should know when looking at the images below is that these are NOT photoshopped. And these are NOT people. They're creations made of silicone, paint and human hair. Sam painstakingly creates all these pieces from scratch and they range in size from full-bodied works to just face molds.

Enjoy.
